Last Night, the DC Kings and the DC Gurly Show came together at Phase 1, not only for a great drag king show (including Lexie Starre, Sugar Cane and Private Tails–and future Gurlies, Duncan Deeply and Butta), but to celebrate Ken Vegas’ 15 year anniversary as a drag king.
With an all-star performance line up, the show closed with THE KING himself, performing the same number he did back in 1996. If you were there, and a lot of you were, it was ah-mazing. If you weren’t-you’re going to regret it.
Following the presentation of card and gift-the stage was filled with performers that Ken affected. There were 30+ people on the stage–and about 75 in the audience.
Ken Vegas-your leadership and dream of providing a space for expression has resulted in our amazing group running in a similar manner. Thank you for opening the door.

This past Friday, Grena Dean and Private Tails participated in “Slut Night” at Phase 1. It was a fundraiser for Capital Queer Prom and Transgender Health Empowerment. These two Gurlies were joined by E-Cleff (the producer of the show and President and Founder of Capital Queer Prom), Rocky and Sammy Smooth (of the DC Kings) and Oohzee.
An all-star show, with raffles and prizes flowing like the beer on tap. An event you should not miss in the future.

All auditioned for the show at their DC auditions.
The group number was out of this world! They wowed Producer Brian Updyke, and made quite a mess with their addiction to glitter–which they substituted with multicolored metallic confetti.
Following a quick costume change and a few acts, Private Tails, Velvet Kensington and Lola Rose auditioned solo.
Private Tails did her typical Tease Queening with a compilation of Scream, Disturbia, and Just Dance. Velvet Kensington transformed into Felon Whoreness to Only Girl. Lola Rose brought out an extremely short version of Gangster of Love–a choreographed classical burlesque piece.
Each soloist was allowed to watch the other two, and each was grateful!
We will find out if we made it to the next level in January, so let’s all be patient until then!

How do Gurly Gurls spend their natural disasters-namely Hurricane, Irene, the earthquakes and Tropical Storm Lee’s massive flooding?
Some like to work from home:
Private Tails doubles as a dog walker to keep her trim figure), so instead of driving through high winds and heavy rains, she brought her client Leo home with her. He is well trained, thank goodness, but shed everywhere. Private Tails spent it cleaning her home…
Some prefer to leave work at work, and stay in with special friends.
Anna Steasya didn’t want to be alone in her Columbia Heights row house, so she went to a friend’s house on Saturday… and came home on Sunday…
Some prefer to go out with friends for massages, pedicures, and an all-around amazing day at the spa!
Zoe Tahari organized a superior girls night out–which was canceled due to weather and driving complications. She ended up spending some much needed time with family.
And, of course, some like to take the bull by the horns.
Lola Rose was out on vacation white water rafting and missed the whole thing.
